This line of research globally aims at integrating the analysis of physical and natural processes within the framework of a concerted management of space. The researches then turn on rather naturalistic questions : regionalizing ecosystems, vegetation map-making, evolution of the rivers' functioning. Most of the time, however, the observance of management purposes leads to analyze in the same time the social dynamics observable on the territory of reference and to integrate stake-holders' logics and representations. Most of the line's works converge on one point : the execution of spatialized information management computer tools (geographical information systems (GIS) ; teledetection) around which the C.R.E.N.A.M. has developed methodological and technical skills since 1989.

The Gyula Pauer Center for Cartography & GIS at the University of Kentucky lies within the "realm" of the geography department. Therefore, we satisfy the department's cartographic needs whether it be an individual map for a faculty member's journal article submission or hundreds of graphics for a geography textbook or atlas. Our scope is very broad based as is our clientele. We support the cartographic needs of all university departments, some state agencies, as well as private individuals and organizations in the community. We produce, primarily, thematic maps for our clients, but have been known to produce an occasional reference map (e.g. map of Lexington and environs, UK campus map). During our more than thirty years of mapmaking we have made thousands of maps for a diverse clientele.
