![]() MapGiving 2011: Imus Donates 200 Maps to Madison Schools At the 201 NACIS Annual Meeting held in Madison, Wisconsin, in conjunction with MapGiving, NACIS member Dave Imus of Imus Geographics presented 200 free copies of the "Essential Geography of the United States of America" to Madison Metropolitan Schools. Superintendent Daniel Nerad graciously accepted the maps on behalf of the school district, and stated he believed that the maps would greatly benefit the students' geographical education. Dave's impassioned speech that preceded the donation challenged cartographers to "make a difference" by using our craft to promote geographic literacy and education. Dave's map was recently written up in Slate Magazine ("The Greatest Paper Map of the United States that You'll Ever See") and received national press for its bold attempt at building a better U.S. wall map. We applaud his vision, commitment and generosity. MapGiving is an initiative started by NACIS members to volunteer time, energy, products, and services to provide and promote maps, spatial data, and geographic awareness.
